Dr. Karim completed his Bachelor’s degree in Botany in 2004 at Dept. of Botany, University of Rajshahi, Rajshahi, Bangladesh. He subsequently earned his Master’s degree in Botany (Plant Biotechnology) from same University. After completion of MSc degree, Dr Karim joined as a Lecturer in the Dept. of Botany, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. In his MSc degree, he carried out a research work entitled ‘Varietal improvement of strawberry adaptive to agro-climatic condition of Bangladesh’. Several somaclones were developed through callus induction and plant regeneration. After field evaluation, it was found that some somaclones were well adapted to Bangladesh agro-climatic condition, which are now being cultivated commercially in the winter season by many farmers. In his PhD research, he has worked on gene expression and DNA methylation during in vitro culture and plant regeneration in finger root ginger, Boesenbergia rotunda. He has reported the expression and DNA methylation patterns of SOMATIC EMBRYOGENESIS RECEPTOR-LIKE KINASE (SERK), BABY BOOM (BBM), LEAFY COTYLEDON 2 (LEC2) and WUSCHEL (WUS) in different samples, which were published in reputed ISI journals such as Annals of Applied Biology, Physiology and Molecular Biology of Plants, The Philippine Agricultural Scientist, and Plos One.Presently, Dr Karim is working as a post-doctoral researcher at the AGC Lab, where his work is primarily focused on microbiome mapping in southern Morocco with impacts on phosphorus solubility and agronomic performance using sequencing and machine learning approaches. His research interest is to to facilitate biotechnological, molecular and bioinformatic approaches for sustainable agriculture and human welfare, which can be helpful to overcome the challenges of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) like No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being.
